How to rip a Hulu movie to your iPod…
…because Google searches to my site demanded this.
First, a few prerequisites.
1. You must be willing to keep the Hulu window on top for however long it takes to play the movie.
2. You must be willing to spend the same amount of time ripping it as watching it.
3. You must have a computer.
If you don’t meet all of the requirements, you should just watch the movie.
However, if you’re going on an errand, etc., you may want to try this method!
First, download a sceencast/recording tool. A free one I like is CamStudio. Then figure out how to record. My instructions will be with CamStudio.
1. Make sure your volume is not set to mute.
2. Play with the options until you get the desired ones.
3. Go to the “Region” menu. Click on “fixed region”.
4. Go to the Hulu movie you wish to record.
5. In the “fixed region” window, click “Select”
6. Draw a rectangle (using the cursor).
7. Press the record button in the main CamStudio window.
8. Start playing the Hulu movie.
9. When the movie finishes, press the stop button in the main CamStudio window and save the movie.
10. Import this to iTunes and have it convert the movie to a format for the iPod.
If you actually did this, you have problems.
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT COMES OUT OF THIS. THIS IS PURELY FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES AND IS NOT ENDORSED BY ANYONE, WHICH MEANS THAT YOU LAWYERS CAN’T SUE ME. ESPECIALLY THE MPAA.
Actually, I think their lawyers still can sue you.
Nope.
After all, they already agree to my Terms of Uselessness.
But they could sue, claiming not to have seen it and blaming it on the fact that you do not have to agree to it before entering the site.
The first few sentences, for your reference:
Okay. Here’s the deal: if you read my blog, you have to agree with everything in this Terms of Uselessness. Otherwise, go away.
This page can change at my whim, and I don’t have to tell you anything that’s in it. Even if you don’t know what is happening, and even if I play tricks on you, you still have to mindlessly obey this TOU.
By reading my blog, they automatically agree to my TOU. Thus, they must agree to it in order to be able to read my blog.
Nyet, nyet, you have to make sure they read your TOU _before_ they enter or read anything on your blog.
No, I don’t, because it says that they have to agree to my tou in order to read my blog.
Also, now that I added another text widget in my sidebar, they automatically agree to it if they read my blog:
Read this first (or after the text above).
If you wish to read this blog, you must agree to my Terms of Use(lessness).
Most of you can just shrug this off and read it, but believe me, it’s helpful when dealing with the threat of DMCA takedown notices and culture-of-ownership lawyers.
I’m actually fine if you just say, “Continue”, because it still means that you agree to it. And as long as you’re lawful, it won’t affect you.
(And it keeps the bots out (not!).)
And after all, users are supposed to read EULAs before they click “agree”, so they also agree to my TOU before they read my blog.
I use TuneCab Online Video Catcher to download, save and convert any online video (Hulu, YouTube, Google, CNN etc). http://www.tunecab.com/product2.php
There are several programs that unlike tunecab really work with hulu. hulu video downloader is one of them:
